Thailand Wants to Increase Cooperation with Cambodia on Education

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand, Anek Laothamatas, informed Prime Minister Hun Sen that Thailand wants to strengthen cooperation with Cambodia in the field of education by providing scholarships to Cambodian students and allowing Cambodian researchers to do research in their territory as well.

Speaking at a meeting with Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Peace Palace on Friday morning, 7 October 2022, Minister Anek Laothamatas said that Thailand will provide scholarships for doctoral and master's degrees in science and technology at universities in the Kingdom of Thailand and also allow Cambodian researchers to participate in research in astronomy, biology, health and other fields.

The Prime Minister’s Assistant, Eang Sophalleth, told reporters after the meeting, "Furthermore, Minister Anek invited the Cambodian delegation to pay an official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand to explore the possibility of expanding and strengthening cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of education."

Prime Minister Hun Sen thanked the Thai side for providing scholarships and cooperation on research. He requested the Thai Minister of Higher Education to continue discussions with relevant institutions in Cambodia to promote good and in-depth cooperation.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Hun Sen also decided for the Ministry of Industry, Handicrafts and Innovation to assign a delegation to visit Thailand at the invitation of Minister Anek Laothamatas.
